Presenter: Camille Catlett, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, SCRIPT-NC

"Observing, documenting, and assessing each child’s development and learning are essential processes for educators and programs to plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of the experiences they provide to children”, according to the NAEYC position statement on DAP (p. 19). The new position statement also reminds us of the need to bring three lenses – commonality, individuality, and context – to our decision-making process. This session will share three kinds of examples: free, high-quality resources to support students in developing skills for observation, documentation, and assessment; activities through which students can develop key skills; and assignments through which students can demonstrate what they have learned. Special attention will be focused on examples related to children who are diverse in culture, language, and ability.
