Shift Happens: Tools, Practices, and Resources for Supporting Excellence in the Current Early Childhood Context

PART 1 was held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST and focused on Building and Sustaining Community in Online Learning Environments.

    Presenters:

    • Laura E. Fenendael (NWTC, Wisconsin)
    • Jennifer Koel, Ph.D. (WCTC, Wisconsin)
    • Danielle Savory Seggerson (LCC, Michigan)

Many programs are shifting to hybrid or online teaching models for fall. This presents a unique opportunity for fostering relationships and building community that are different from those in the face-to-face classroom. This session will provide strategies to organize online classes, cultivate instructor-student and student-student relationships, and plan with community-building in mind. Strategies suitable for both synchronous and asynchronous environments will be shared.

The Power to the Profession Task Force is pleased to share the final draft of Decision Cycle 7+8, also available in Spanish.  This document outlines recommendations related to a supportive infrastructure and shared accountability for the early childhood education profession.

As you know, ACCESS was at the table for these discussions represented by Debra Murphy with Carrie Nepstad in support.

SAVE THE DATE, MARCH 9: Releasing the Unifying Framework for the Early Childhood Education Profession

With the conclusion of the decision cycle process, the Power to the Profession Task Force will release its final report, the Unifying Framework for the Early Childhood Education Profession. This document reflects unprecedented consensus by educators across states and settings, administrators, employers, and higher education.

Please join us, either in person in Washington, DC or online, at 2:00-4:00 pm ET on March 9 for an event to share the Unifying Framework. Celebrate our shared commitment. Learn more about the recommendations. Discuss the next steps for making our vision a reality. RSVP here.

The Unifying Framework incorporates the recommendations from all eight decision cycles, including changes in educator roles and responsibilities, aligned preparation and pathways, professional compensation, and a supportive infrastructure with shared accountability. It also calls for significant increases in federal and state investments to help ensure the 40 million U.S. children, birth to age 8, are well-served by an effective, diverse, and fairly compensated workforce of professionals.

Please join us on March 9 as we come together to build a movement to advance a unified, diverse, equitable, and effective early childhood education profession.
